Location, Props and Costume

I wish to shoot in both a studio and outside. The studio will provide me with a professional background with the use of artificial lighting. As I will be adding text to where the available space is on the image, the background needs to be plain so that the text won't be so difficult to read. I would also like to shoot in the streets of Norwich by Anglian Square due to the wall of graffiti. I believe this will create an interesting background and produce plenty of colour. I'd also like to do a mini shoot on make up perhaps due to my magazine being a fashion and music magazine. This will be placed on my contents page and create further articles.
As of props I will need make up brushes/ powders/ lipsticks and other accessories that I may feel at the time would suit. Other accessories such as handbags may be included. For my cover photo, I'd like to experiment with having the models hair being blown away from her face; this could connote flawless. If I am to publish beauty such as hair and make up, I realised that a typical advertisement convention is where the models hair is blowing away. I therefore will need a fan as a substitute for the more professional technologies that are used for photos. I will need artificial lighting, ideally three lights to create a bold light on the model.
Costumes will need to be highly fashionable due to it being both a fashion and music magazine. I need to style the model in something stylish and trendy, grabbing the attention of my fashion readers. My target audience is aged 16-19 therefore I need something that will catch their attention and something suited to their age. Being within that age range, clothing items such as leather jacket/ bomber/ denim, a skort/ skirt, boots are all in fashion therefore these will work well. I may want the model to wear jewellery, nothing major but perhaps a subtle necklace or a pair of earrings.

Initial Ideas: music magazine

Initial Ideas: music magazine

As I am highly interested in fashion I would definitely like to make the music magazine something involved in fashion. To create this idea of fashion I would like to present on the cover of my music magazine a fashionable, female band or solo artist wearing the latest fashion. As well as fashion I will obviously be including music. My main focus area of music will be R&B/ chart hits. I want to present a variety of popular music and popular artists that will draw the attention of a target audience aged 18-24. I chose this age as I want it to look mature and professional rather than something directed more for the younger generation. It will be of a feminine magazine rather than masculine due to the idea that I want to present female a female band/ solo artist and the choice of colour scheme which I will explain further on in this document.

Researching other music magazines, I am most interested in the designs of Q magazine, Rolling Stone, and NME. These three music magazines are very popular in the music industry and you can tell this by the way they are presented. Their titles are often covered by the celeb presented on their cover page which is because they are so popular that the name is easily recognized by their target audience. I also like their use of page layout and structure; I particularly like the layout of one of Rolling Stone's magazine presenting Amy Winehouse as their main focus. She stands in front of the title and her image is taken as a medium shot showing her personality through her outfit. I like that they've kept to simple colours and it's all very effective in the way of presenting Amy.

I want my cover page to include either a band of 3 or solo artist, preferably female taking up a good third of the cover. I would like the text presented in front of the image depending on how wide the image is. I'm currently still waiting on feedback for a colour scheme but colours I would like to use for my magazine are purple, black and white. These three colours will help propose the idea that the magazine I'm creating is in fact targeted at the female population rather than male. Even though purple can come across as either gender I will choose a brighter, still mature coloured purple to help indicate the idea.

For my contents, I would like to include fashion whether it be tips, model exclusive interviews, etc. Also still waiting on feedback I have mentioned ideas in my questionnaire such as film reviews, gig information, celebrity gossip, reader articles and technology (preferably music technology).

As for a double page spread I would either like to make it about a music artist or celebrity either an interview or news that have happened. Either that or I will present the band information and include their next upcoming gigs, their recent music, fashion trends that they have created for their fans and blogs, etc.
